Fleet Monitoring

Vehicle monitoring systems record when, where, how far, how fast and how aggressively a vehicle is driven on the road. They are commonly used by fleet operators to monitor vehicle use and driver behavior as well as for fleet management functions such as routing, dispatch, on-board information and security.

Vehicle monitoring systems are generally classified as either passive or active systems. Passive devices store vehicle information on a removable chip or external hard drive where it can be downloaded to a computer at a later time. Active devices transmit data in real-time via cellular or satellite networks to a computer or data center for evaluation.

Most modern monitoring systems combine Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology with cellular or satellite transmitters for accurate vehicle monitoring and data reporting. They provide turn-by-turn trip logs, speed-coded route maps, driving statistics and more.
